National Literacy and Numeracy Testing (NAPLAN)

This year, the National Literacy and Numeracy Test (NAPLAN) for all Year 7 and 9 students will run from 12-14 May. The testing schedule and school timetable information is available on the website and Facebook page.
The NAPLAN test receives a lot of attention in the media and there is a lot of contradictory information about it.  At Urangan SHS, we are working very hard to provide an education which suits the needs of each individual student.  We are constantly reviewing and improving established programs and practices and developing new ones in our efforts to provide differentiated teaching and learning for your/our students.  At Urangan SHS we use the NAPLAN results to assist us because the data we receive tells us a lot about what your individual student needs in order to grow and improve as learners. The NAPLAN data is therefore a very useful tool for us because it helps us to make the best decisions possible about how to design teaching and learning.
It is therefore very important that students complete each test to the very best of their ability so that the individual data we have on each student is as accurate as possible.

Tips to help your child be ready for NAPLAN:

·         Help your student understand the purpose of the testing tools – to give us information about them to improve our teaching and learning
·         Help your student manage anxiety and nerves
·         Ensure your student gets adequate sleep and rest
·         Make sure your student has a nutritious breakfast each morning and arrives to school in plenty of time
·         Ensure your student brings the required equipment (lead pencils, erasers, calculator, a blue or black pen) and school equipment for the rest of the day
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Alexia Taylor at the school on (07) 4197 0111.
