Creative Futures
The Creative Futures faculty at Urangan State High School offers students the opportunity to learn in five Arts subjects: Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Art. Through our programs students learn to express their ideas, thoughts and opinions while developing their Arts knowledge and skills and their aesthetic understanding. At Urangan High, we deliver learning environments with teachers who are passionate and skilled in their subject areas.
Our curriculum pathways extend from Year 7 through to Year 12 with opportunities to study General and Applied subjects available. Certificate III in Dance or Visual Arts (Photography specialisation) are on offer to students in the senior years. Our Music Excellence program is audition-based and is offered from Year 7 to 9 with the option to continue the study of Music in the senior years in General Music, Certificate IV in Music Industry and Music Extension.
Our school has a long history of supporting Arts activities and events and providing students with opportunities to share their creative achievements with the school and wider community. Throughout the year, Creative Futures students have the opportunity to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities, including:
Music events such as “Sonic”, “Acoustic Night”, “Unbleached” and Music Extension performance evenings;
Instrumental Music program and performance evenings;
Visual Art and Media display evening, “Kaleidoscope”;
Dance and Drama Nights;
Urangan High “Diamonites” Cheer Squad and Aerobics Teams;
Creative Generation: State Schools Onstage (by audition);
Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art (by selection).
At Urangan High, every second year, we provide students with the opportunity to attend an Arts camp in a major city where they attend professional performances and exhibitions. In the alternate year we produce a major event such as a festival or musical. We also provide students with opportunities to work with visiting professional artists and performers.
