Dorrie Day is one of the most anticipated events on the Urangan State High School calendar, bringing our whole school community together to celebrate culture, connection, and understanding. Named in honour of respected Butchulla Elder Aunty Dorrie, this day recognises the ongoing contributions of First Nations peoples and provides an important opportunity for students to engage meaningfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
The program includes a wide variety of cultural experiences, such as Welcome to Country, traditional dance and music performances, storytelling, art displays, bush tucker tastings, and interactive workshops. These activities not only showcase the depth and richness of First Nations traditions but also allow students and staff to participate in learning that strengthens respect and appreciation across cultures.
Dorrie Day is more than just a celebration — it is part of Urangan State High’s broader commitment to reconciliation and inclusivity. By engaging students in hands-on learning and authentic cultural experiences, the event encourages open-mindedness, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the diverse histories and perspectives that shape our nation.
Families and community members are warmly invited to join us in honouring this special occasion. Together, we celebrate the legacy of Aunty Dorrie and affirm our shared responsibility to build strong, respectful relationships that connect the past, present, and future.
