Year 8 Mathematics strengthens logical thinking and independence. Students deepen their understanding of ratios, rates and percentages, applying these skills to real-life situations such as financial decisions and scale. Algebra becomes more structured as students solve linear equations and explore relationships using formulas and graphs. Students also extend their knowledge of geometry, measurement, statistics and probability. The focus is on explaining reasoning, making connections and using mathematics confidently to solve practical problems.
Unit 1: Number 1 and 2 Students will be introduced to irrational numbers, exponent laws and solve equations with all four operations with positive and negative integers. Students will solve problems involving ratio, rates and percentages in financial and measurement contexts
| Unit 1 Assessment Exam Week 5 Number 1
Exam Week 10 Number 2
|
Unit 2: Algebra and Linear Equations Students will build on their algebra skills by learning how to rearrange, expand and factorise linear expressions. They will graph linear relations and solve linear inequalities.
| Unit 2 Assessment Exam Week 5 - Algebra Exam Week 10 - Linear Equations
|
Unit 3: Geometry and Pythagoras and Shape Properties, 3D Position Students will solve geometric problems involving perimeter, area and volume of right prisms and composite shapes. Students will be introduced to circle properties and calculations. In the second half of the term, they will investigate similarity and congruency. Utilise Pythagoras theorem to solve measurement problems. Student will introduced to the 3D co-ordinate system.

Unit 4: Data & Statistics and Probability, Time Students will be exposed to the different types of sampling and will have to collect and analyse data and its distribution.
They will have to conduct probability experiments and determine the related probabilities of single and compound events. Students will have to solve problems using 12- and 24-hour time across time zones.
