The Short Course in Numeracy is a one-unit senior course designed for students who find mathematics challenging and have experienced difficulty achieving success in the regular Mathematics program. It provides a practical and supported pathway for students working towards meeting the numeracy requirement for the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
The course focuses on building confidence and capability in everyday mathematical skills. Students strengthen their understanding of money and budgeting, percentages and rates, measurement, data interpretation and problem-solving in real-life contexts. The emphasis is on practical application rather than abstract theory, helping students develop the functional numeracy skills they need for work, training and independent living — with support, clarity and achievable success at the centre of the program.
Unit 1: Personal identity and community Students develop the numeracy skills selected by their teacher through activities that relate to expressing personal identity, achieving personal goals, and understanding and interacting with the wider community. Students use mathematics knowledge to make sense of situations in a real context for a social or personal purpose.

| Unit 2: Workplace and Employment Students develop the numeracy skills selected by their teacher through activities that relate to preparing for and seeking employment, operating in an existing workplace, and/or entering a new work setting.
