We've kicked off again this year with the OurVoice Program, hosted and presented by our partners, the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre.
Each term, 10 lucky Year 10 students have the opportunity to participate in a free program intended to help young people explore the world of employment and vocational education and training in order to help them connect with a future pathway. The program runs at the HBNC Hive building (the old Rock Off) every Friday from 10am -2pm for the duration of one school term.
Last week our Year 10 students were fortunate enough to have a guest speaker, Matt Eyles from One Bold Step. Matt spoke with students about:
- the current difference between the minimum wage and the average wages in Australia
- the biggest employment and training opportunities on the Fraser Coast
- growing industries and where employment growth will be
He also worked students through some strength-based and visualisation exercises to help students plan SMART goals for their next steps on a pathway leading to a future of their choosing.
Students had great day, and a sausage sizzle for lunch. We are looking forward to our TAFE Tour and a Beach Treasure Hunt which will help to demonstrate and utilise some of the skills we have been learning.
Applications are open now for participation in this course in Term 2. Please contact Ms O'Neill, Head of Student Engagement if you would like to refer yourself or your student.
