RYDA - Road Safety Driver Awareness for all Year 10 students
RYDA MEDIA RELEASE
It is the knock on the door that no parent ever wants - the one where a police officer tells you that your young son or daughter has been involved in a car crash. With your help we can minimise the chances of that happening.
The four local Rotary Clubs of the Fraser Coast in conjunction with RSE (Road Safety Education) and with the support of the Qld Police and all Fraser Coast schools are running FREE RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) workshops for all Year 10 students on the Fraser Coast.
These workshops show young drivers the things that impact on their decision making (good or bad) when they are at the wheel of a car or a passenger.
These factors include the distance it takes to stop a vehicle at varying speeds, where the blind spots are for a semi driver (students sit in the driver's seat of a semi) and how emotions impact driving decisions. And it is not only about drivers. There are skills that students learn as passengers to keep them and their driver safe.
The workshops also show the consequences that bad/poor decisions can make such as injury and grief.
The workshops are free, they are in school time (supported by the schools), transport is free, morning tea, bottled water and a lunch sausage sizzle is provided. These workshop days are scheduled in the school calendar.
We want EVERY Year 10 student to attend and we need your help as parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers to encourage your child to attend.
Testament to the value of these workshops is given by the number of volunteers who give up their time including high quality presenters, the Fraser Coast Council (providing the use of the Maryborough Showgrounds), the Department of Transport and numerous local businesses providing financial support.
